Litecoin uses 97,38% less energy than Bitcoin for an average transaction according to TRG DC

Litecoin is a decentralized digital currency, without a central bank or single administrator, that can be sent from user to user on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network without the need for intermediaries. It is a source code fork of Bitcoin, differing primarily by having a decreased block generation time of 2.5 minutes,  rather than Bitcoin’s 10 minutes. Litecoin is secured by the Scrypt algorithm, instead of SHA-256 that Bitcoin uses.  Scrypt is a sequential memory-hard function requiring more memory than an algorithm which is not memory-hard.  Litecoin uses 97.38% less energy than Bitcoin for an average transaction according to TRG Datacenters.

Due to Litecoin’s use of the Scrypt algorithm, ASIC devices made for mining Litecoin are more complicated to create and more expensive to produce than they are for Bitcoin. The Market Capitalization of Litecoin is quoted daily,  but even more importantly for miners, the daily traded volume is often a high percentage of Market Capitalization.
